.05 THE CONQUISTADOR MINDSET: Becoming a Conqueror

BECOMING A CONQUEROR

(How to Shift Your Vantage Point for the NPTE®)

“Live each day as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance toward the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point. So climb slowly, enjoying each passing moment; and then the view from the summit will serve a more rewarding climax for your journey”

~ Fulton J. Sheen

In this blog we said we would discuss our outline for shifting our NPTE® vantage point. We already have set up a few key points in our past blogs:

  • Start identifying as a physical therapist or a physical therapy assistant. When you walk the talk, it’s much easier to become what you want to be and to go where you want to go.

  • Study smarter, not harder:

    • Do 1 hour sessions

    • Write SMART goals before each session

    • Devote time to mindset!

  • Understand that in order to conquer yourself and set yourself up for this test, you’ll need to make some changes and be aware of your mindset.

So now let’s actually DO it.

Here’s the outline for our steps:

  1. DIAGNOSE

  2. RESTRUCTURE

  3. PRACTICE

  4. SUCCEED

Looks unwittingly like our physical therapy process, doesn’t it? We have to diagnose the problem. We have to restructure the patient’s movement pattern or tissue loading. Then we have to practice their changes so they know how to do it at home and can keep it for their life activities. And finally, they are able to return to their function!

You may have already started your journey through these steps. Maybe you already know what your “problem” is. Maybe it’s test anxiety. Maybe it’s overthinking. Maybe it’s lack of confidence. Maybe it’s not knowing how to study or where to start.

Maybe it’s all of it.

But you just have to start. This week, simply be aware of your mindset, of your thoughts, and of the mountain that you need to conquer for this exam.
